With reference to my telegram No. 12

of the 12th of August, 192), regarding the Chinese

Telegraph Office in this Colony, I have the honour

for an intɛrview with the Colonial Gecretary with

whom, as representing myself and the Government, he

no doubt hoped to clinch his position us the rightful

incumbent of this office.

Nevertheless without waiting for a reply

to tule requert är, Lu teok upon hinaɖli to write to

the present incumbent Er. Chiang, announcing his

intention to take over charge on the 1 th instant,

Mr. Chiang immediately submitted this letter t the

Secretary for Chinese Affairs, who instructed him to ignore it pending wirtten directions from my Gov rnment.

On the sun day ( 18th September) Sr. Lu called a

second time on the Secretary for Chinese Affairs

and
